Back in the Eighties I hated this movie, I was a huge horror movie fan and the fact this flick was about a group of kids fighting monsters annoyed me greatly, massively. I hated movies with kids in them, Goonies was another movie I loathed. But these days I’m a more reasonable person, HA, and I can accept movies about kids saving the World. After all I loved Super 8.
I’m actually enjoying watching Monster Squad all these years later, it’s the first time I have watched it since 1987, when it popped out on VHS.
This is a lot better than Van Helsing, which is a shame because Van Helsing should have been amazing, Hugh Jackman was good in the movie, shame the director had no clue.
There are a lot of flaws in Monster Squad, be I guess it’s possible to ignore them, after all this is just a big load of fun, right?
The monsters themselves look ace. Especially when the Creature From The Black Lagoon rises from the swamp having retrieved the box container of Frankenstein’s Monster. The fact the little girl turns the Monster into her pet is rather amusing, to me, though I thought at first the Monster would simply throw the child deep into the lake, didn’t happen though.
It’s weird how a person can change over a long period of time, from my cynical hateful horror movie obsessed younger self to this decrepit, half dead, cynical, hateful non horror obsessed older self.
Totally and completely strange.
