MAGICKAL PRACTICE
As I wandered down to my local supermarket, Morrisons, this morning I took the advice of Grant Morrison (heh), via his Pop Magic articles, and started to really notice the area I walked, the way the Winter Sun hung low in the sky blinding almost myself and other people either walking or driving, I noticed the bare trees, black and barren against the clear blue sky, the frost upon the grass intrigued me, did it possess some hidden meaning? In the supermarket, where I was shopping for food stuff for work, I normally purchase about fifteen quids worth of goods, stuff for sandwiches, fruit packets for breakfast, yoghurts for lunch, and of course super noodles for an evening meal once I reach the sanctuary of home after a hard (HA!) days work, to be fair I don’t think I have ever done a hard days work, not this century at least, my job is pretty easy, so far, and I get paid way too much for what I do, nine quid an hour, slightly above the so called ‘living wage’ and a lot more than the European minimum wage, I am quite fortunate to be relatively well paid, compared to most British workers, at least I assume I am. But enough of such nonsense about work, during my supermarket shop, some bloke I went to school with, over twenty years ago spotted me and said ‘you alright!’ as we tend to do in this area, I couldn’t remember his name, I found it odd, in an almost occult sense that almost every time I journey to a supermarket in this area I am recognised, but my memory being so poor I don’t recognise, or remember the persons name, last night someone in Asda recognised me, I just replied, ‘alright mate?’ with no idea of who the person was, sometimes, I spy people from a factory I worked at for over ten years, I can tell they work there as they are proudly wearing the companies required t-shirts, or at this time of year fleeces, but I never recognise them, I sometimes consider that my poor memory is a symptom of my brain damage, but I cannot be sure, perhaps these people were employed after I left, over a year ago, perhaps. But I’m finding some sort of occult significance in my lack of memory, am I brain damaged? Or am I just completely disinterested in people? So much so that I no longer remember anyone? It’s something I perhaps need to address, because one day I might wake up and forget myself.
Meditation wise I managed a mere four minutes this morning, which is completely poor, and I am ashamed of myself.
HUMAN CULTURE; HOMEOSTATIC
In The Invisibles Tom O Bedlam explains to Dane that human culture was always homeostatic, it didn’t have the same notions of time we have now. That cities were introduced as a virus. But these days we’re so obsessed with time, odd, don’t ya think? If of course true.
I guess, if you study early human culture, you can tell we were all of course happy being the way we were, without change, without progression, how long, for example, did we remain hunter/gatherers? Longer than we have been living in cities? Well, Homo Sapiens, apparently originated in Africa about two hundred thousand years ago, and cities have existed for what? Six thousand years? So if what Morrison has Bedlam say could in fact be a truism, couldn’t it? We are infected, by cities. Without cities human existence would be very different, would it? Perhaps not for the better, of us, but certainly better for the planet, I would imagine.
THE END OF THE WORLD
In Promethea the thing is the World will end. That’s kind of what Promethea is all about, isn’t it?
But as is explained ‘The World’ isn’t the planet, or the life and people on it. The World is our systems, our politics, our economies… our ideas of the World! It’s our flags and our banknotes and our border wars.
If all that came to an end, tomorrow, I for one would jump for joy, that World I’d be happy to see end. No more of this complete illogical nonsense. Whoopee!
There have been end of the World scenarios for a very, very long time, none of them have come true, though for some, fighting at Ypres WAS the end of the World, Britain’s pre-war army stood at eighty four thousand, most of whom died at Ypres, it is said that Britain’s professional army died there. The casualties at The Somme, for Britain, were at more than four hundred thousand, and no one, not one single person in power, understood their mistake, the war end all wars, ha, if only it had have been. Of course some nations learned from their mistakes, not necessarily due to WW1, but before, Switzerland is an example. There is no reason at all for a war, any war.
THE MIND
While using the book Magick, and studying such ideas, concepts, notions. It is very difficult to successfully meditate, the mind, mine, anyone’s, doesn’t want you to meditate, to remain still, to focus.
I believe the mind, and the brain/physical self, are separate. I think that sometimes the mind has its own plans, and will carry out those plans without our knowledge, which I know sounds mad, but I believe we are all schizophrenic, the people who are institutionalised for being so are just far more schizophrenic than the rest of us, so much so it affects their ability to cope with reality. The rest of us function at a basic level and without knowledge stumble clumsily through reality. There are many times we say, or do, things we didn’t plan, this is our minds without our knowledge conspiring against us. But why would our mind conspire against us? Surely it needs us? Well yeah it does, but it can control us, use us like a puppet, while we have no control over our minds, we can never make our minds up, have you ever noticed? Though we wish to, we can’t, it always goes and does, or thinks, something else. We are not in control. Our minds are.
