Patriotism/Nationalism I Know Exactly What You Can Do With It

Kikuyu, Kenya in the 1950’s, officially the British detained 80,000 Kenyans, but that’s a lie, the truth is they detained one and a half million people in camps and fortified villages. There, British soldiers, beat to death thousands, more died from malnutrition, typhoid, tuberculosis and dysentery. Kenyan children in almost all the camps did not survive.

Torture of these Kenyans was widespread, many of the men were raped, using knives, broken bottles and rifle barrels. A favourite torture technique by British soldiers was to hold a man upside down, his head in a bucket of water while sand was rammed into his rectum with a stick. Women were routinely gang raped by British soldiers, who also enjoyed allowing dogs to maul Kenyans, and happily electrocuted Kenyans. A British genius, devised a tool that would first crush a man’s testicles and then ripped them off. British soldiers regularly used pliers to mutilate women’s breasts. British soldiers cut off Kenyan ears and fingers and gouged out their eyes. People were dragged along the ground by Land Rovers, driven by British soldiers, until their bodies disintegrated. Men were rolled up in barbed wire and kicked around the camps.

The British Empire was evil, corrupt, cruel, barbaric and savage. It was an Empire built upon the corpses of millions of human beings, who offended the British for not being British. Being proud of the British Empire is as wrong as a German being proud of the Nazi’s or the Japanese of their own people during World War 2, but because we the British are arrogant, ignorant and WRONG, almost every day about everything, the British will not accept the wrongdoings of the nation they are a part of. But the wrongdoings are there, the atrocities committed by the British are just as bad as those committed by any other European Empire.

Between 1490 and 1890 those damned Europeans murdered, purposefully or accidentally on purpose, anywhere between 1.8 million and 100 million indigenous people in the Americas.

Let’s not forget also that very National drive by Hitler and his wonderful internment camps Auschwitz-Birkenbeu, Bergen-Belsen, Buchenwald, Dachau and dozens of others, when you look into it there’s a vast list of these death camps, where men, women and children were butchered for being Jews, or Polish, or Gypsies.

There’s only shame in patriotism, and especially in nationalism. To not take into account the atrocities carried out by your people on peoples of other lands is to accept untruths, to embrace ignorance.

So, as far as I’m concerned, every patriotic, nationalistic person on this planet can take, their, so called, pride and stick it where the Sun doesn’t shine.

 

ALIEN

After watching the new Ridley Scott movie Prometheus I enjoyed it so much, and was so excited, I went and purchased, on Blu-Ray, the Alien Quadrilogy, it was only a mere fifteen pounds from HMV, sweet, or so was my initial response, fuelled by excitement, upon arrival home I decided that it wasn’t such a good purchase after all, I haven’t watched any of the movies in many a moon, and other than the original the other movies are a little blah. However, my meh, at the boxset, changed after watching Alien, the picture quality was absolutely amazing, it was like watching a brand new movie, a more modern movie, though it must be said modern movies are simply not this good.

Alien is pure horror, science fiction horror, but mainly horror, forget the setting. The look of the movie is outrageously good, the design work as good as, perhaps better than, anything cinema goers bear witness to these days. 

The Nostromo is a huge vessel, sprawling, I was thinking during my watching of the movie that really the Nostromo should be crewed by hundreds not a handful, not that it matters, automatic means pilot spacecraft now, in the future, if the human species survives long enough, and of course the World isn’t in a more terrible state than it is now, I suspect that space exploration will be completely automated.

The conspiratorial nature of the company the crew of the Nostromo work for is appropriate, in the future corporations will be as corrupt as they are today, the future isn’t going to be nice and shiny, it’s going to be cruel and dirty, if, of course the future is anything like the present, or indeed the past.

After watching Prometheus I have questions of how the alien spacecraft crashed on this planet? What was it transporting? How did the monsters originate, evolve?

The effectiveness, and creepiness, of all those eggs littering the floor of that space vehicle is amazing, even after all these many years, and Kane’s foolish curiosity leads to one of the most startling scenes in movie history.

The monster in this first movie is a terrible creature, nigh indestructible, savage, unrelenting, the later movies, especially Aliens, kind of downplays, or presents the monsters as weaker beings, I blame the creators of Aliens for that, their imagination was very small. Not like the imagination of those who created the original movie, whose imaginations were massive.

Stuff That’s Been Revealed To Me Today

This Thursday was the first day of my eleven away from the toil of work. I work as an Electrical Fitter, and the money, for England, is pretty good, however I have tired of working in the manufacturing industry and seek something else, ideally I’d like to win the jackpot on the National Lottery and spend all my time in crazy pursuits, I’d pursue a life embracing the World’s mysteries, you know the kind Nessie, Bigfoot etcetera, etcetera, though my chances of winning the jackpot on the National Lottery are slim to none. My other wish for myself, is to be a professional writer, though, and in my considered opinion, I do not possess the necessary discipline nor talent. So to escape from the Hellishness of factory life today I attended an interview at Boots Opticians, though I feel the interview went well, I suspect I will not acquire the position. However, it made me realise something I was unaware of, I could easily work in Customer Services or Retail, I really could, I’d always believed such tasks were beyond the limitations I, like most people, had set myself, those limits have now been shattered and I can extend my job search to a wider area. I enjoy discovering new things, today I discovered something new about myself, HUZZAH!

My other discoveries today have been as follows; this weeks comic books have been MEGA, every read really enjoyable. I had a good time diving into the World of mutants, superbeings and dastardly villains. Though these days, in the comic books I read, the dastardly villains and their evil plots have vacated most Marvel titles and have been replaced with stories far more interesting.

The laughs I have received today have been mainly about the news story that Paris Saint Germain have, allegedly, placed a bid for Wayne Rooney of one hundred and twenty million pounds, this amuses me for two reasons, first, he’s a mediocre talent, totally not worth that kind of money, his contribution to a game is mostly negligible, it’s mainly left to other mediocre talents to defeat, even more mediocre, other rival talents. It would be the worst transfer ever in football history, I hope it happens, the laughs will be rib breaking. Second, Wayne Rooney in Paris, talk about a fish out of water, the thought makes me break out in more rib breaking laughter.

Thus far that’s my Thursday, and it’s not even 1300 hours yet, there’s much more for me to experience, much more reveals and belly laughs to come. Bring ‘em.

 

Trouble In Mind?

 Hmm, I often mention, either via Facebook or my blog site, many of these words, that are on our Yankee cousins must not mention list, silly Yankees, get a flipping grip, it’s like a big bunch of idiots with a little power have let it go to their heads. In Yankeeland, at airports, small children, has young as two, have been detained for being suspected terrorists or criminals, the World really is run by idiots for idiots (which are of course us, the general public) but anyway, is it possible to have typed words via the Internet become an alert on some intelligence agencies spy software? Really, do people really believe such, a nonsense? Or is it nonsense? Let’s give it good ole go;

In London, during the Queen’s Jubilee or The Olympics, there’s going to be an ATTACK,  maybe a DIRTY BOMB, perhaps an ASSASSINATION attempt, a member of the Royal Family would be a prize target, would it not? At the time of this event DOMESTIC SECURITY along with the COPS, other branches of LAW ENFORCEMENT and other AUTHORITIES will be carrying out some sort of DRILL EXERCISES, perhaps in case of a DISASTER, the drill will be all about DISASTER MANAGEMENT, naturally the other emergency agencies will be involved in this fake STATE OF EMERGENCY, if we here in Great Britain enjoyed such organisations like SWAT teams, and HOMELAND SECURITY, they would also be involved, but we unfortunately (heh, fortunately) don’t have to suffer such ridiculous teams of arrogant, ignorant, self serving buffoons, at least not yet. The drill will be alleged to assess NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS, mostly to assess RESPONSE, RECOVERY and PREVENTION, though how any of that is viable against an attack of a nuclear nature is beyond my, and obviously so, limited knowledge. Does Britain enjoy a similar organisation as the DOMESTIC NUCLEAR DETECTION OFFICE? DOMESTIC NUCLEAR DETECTION seems a pointless exercise, how does an organisation plan against nuclear attack, in any form? EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT and EMERGENCY RESPONSE surely would be non existent, it would be chaos after such an attack, everyone too scared to respond correctly, no matter how many drill exercises a trained team had undergone. FIRST RESPONDER to such an event would certainly not be the local POLICE, and I’d imagine MEDICAL ASSISTANCE would be difficult to respond in such a situation, an EXPLOSION of such a BOMB would cause many DEATHS, and EVACUATION of the area would be ponderous, to say the least, NATIONAL SECURITY would also be threatened and impaired by ORGANISED CRIME, GANGS of asshats deciding to RIOT and take advantage of such a situation, LOOTING would be off the scale, making last years riots look tame in comparison. How would any TEAM, no matter how well trained respond to even a PIPE BOMB INCIDENT? Events would be so out of control a lesser THREAT would be seriously hard to manage. In various areas of London there would be many a SHOOTING, police would not bother to respond to reports of SHOTS FIRED. Of course the important folk would be quickly transported to a secret FACILITY preventing them coming to harm, or being taken HOSTAGE, the police have already shown they are unable to cope with a STANDOFF between themselves and local thugs, there’s not even going to be any attempt of SCREENING folk entering London for these special events, is there? I seriously doubt it, and even if there was the authorities would just claim any terror group had planned far in advance, which of course would not be the case, terror groups don’t exist, unless of course you can claim  the authorities are terror groups, you know the kind, M.I.5 and M.I.6, they certainly behave like such, throughout their history at least they have. London is such a sprawling mass how could the authorities create a LOCKDOWN? Is such an idea impossible? 

Would those responsible for an atrocity try to follow the plan of September the 11th? Hijack a plane force it into an EMERGENCY LANDING, over London, and then BOOM explode a small nuclear device, such an explosion over a populated city would cause devastation for many generations to come. A BREACH to National Security would of course result in the creation of serious social control programs, like having identity cards being forced upon us, more security cameras, curfews, and like sheep we would all comply, in Britain we don’t have armed INITIATIVES, like America’s MILITIAS, that would attempt to resist such security impositions. 

I know for a fact most Britons are unaware of what MARITIME DOMAIN AWARENESS means, fortunately my huge (HA!) intellect alerts me to certain facts, making me, graciously higher on the evolutionary ladder than my fellow monkeys. Yes, I am both arrogant and ignorant, and surprisingly always right, except when I’m (quite often) wrong, heh!

You know though disaster MITIGATION is probably an important recourse, because I might be wrong, very, terror groups might really exist, though I doubt it, and England/Britain and all us wonderful Englanders/Britons really might be under threat. Ha! Ha!Ha! Yeah, I already know, I say, well type, the funniest things.

 

I Am A Modern Day Nostradamus

I’m not really, I don’t believe in being able to predict the future. The natural state of the Universe is one of chaos and unpredictability, and though I can accept the idea that all time occupies the same space but is merely separated by vibrational frequencies, I don’t accept the idea that anyone can see into the future, seers haven’t been able to save the folk who believe in them, have they? For example Adolf Hitler and Princess Diana, both believed in soothsayers, but neither were warned of their own tragic futures.

Though I am a disbeliever, a sceptic, a heathen when it comes to pseudoscience, I do however believe that there will be a terrorist attack staged in London within the next few months, perhaps weeks, to coincide with the Jubilee or Olympics, why do I believe this? Well the powers that be need an excuse to invade Syria and Iran, an atrocity in London would provide them with such an excuse, and an excuse to clamp down on civil liberties, the process of fear demands such a clamp down, but why London?

It can’t be an attack on U.S. soil, now can it? Been there, done that. It can’t be an attack on Israel, that would be a considerably stupid plan, we’d be looking at nuclear armageddon in response. The people’s of the World wouldn’t be shocked enough if it was a city in Europe under attack, unless that city was London, it’s the only target that makes sense.

Stage a terror attack, perhaps a dirty bomb, kill thousands, outrage the civilised World, launch an attack on those dastardly Moslems (sic) save the World. It’s a good plan, it’s worked before, it will work again.

I might be wrong, my prediction might be erroneous, after all no one can predict the future. My future prediction isn’t based upon my having psychic powers, I don’t believe in them, my future prediction is based upon the events of the past and the cycle of time that suggests such events will happen again.

I’m so convinced of the truth of my prediction that I’ll be shocked if there’s no terror attack on London in the next few weeks, or months, and if I’m wrong then hey, I’m wrong, but if I’m right, believe me it wasn’t some dastardly Moslems (sic) behind the attacks. 

Who will attack London, if of course I’m right?

The British. The Americans. The Israelis. 

But definitely not Moslems (sic) never believe the official version of events, politicians live and breath lies, they are deceivers, corrupt and evil. Don’t believe military intelligence, the men, and women, who move in such circles live in a World of shadows and manufacturing acts of terror is their raison d’etre, so to speak. Don’t believe the media, they are alike ventriloquist dummies. Never believe the hype.

There’s a conversation, from the movie Gladiator, that is so apt these days:

Gracchus: I think he knows what Rome is. Rome is the mob. Conjure magic for them and they'll be distracted. Take away their freedom and still they'll roar. The beating heart of Rome is not the marble of the senate, it's the sand of the coliseum. He'll bring them death - and they will love him for it. 

There’s human existence, in the so called First World at least, give the people what they want and they’ll love them for it. Here’s mindless fads, crap you don’t need, McDonalds, X Factor, celebrity gossip, the Premier League, beer, fags, cocaine.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark at The Broadway

Yes today the amazing Broadway cinema in Nottingham was showing, for the matinee, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, what was it like watching the movie at the cinema again for the first time since 1981? Well, let me put it like this I don’t think there are enough adjectives to describe my experience today, but I’ll try, it was amazing, astonishing, astounding, awesome, fantastic, wonderful. I watched Raiders at the cinema, again, it sounds incredible, I can’t believe it myself, it was THE best cinema experience since the Eighties died.

Everyone has seen the movie, right? At least I hope so. It’s one of those movies that if you ever meet anyone, aged over 25 who hasn’t seen it, and enjoyed it, you’d figure they were an alien from Zeta Reticuli 5, and we hate those assclowns, don’t we? A review of the movie is unnecessary, other than to say, it was like watching it again for the first time, this was no pristine print, no tidied up rework, these was Raiders in all its Eighties glory, my face is hurting from the huge grin that remained upon it throughout the entirety of the movie.

Broadway cinema is one of my favourite places in the World, though I haven’t visited all of the World, obviously, so I guess it would be more accurate to state, it’s one of my favourite places in the limited amount of the World I have experienced, so far. It’s got a great atmosphere, the bars are pretty awesome, the food delicious, the people that visit the cinema are the decent types of folk that I wish the entire World was full to the top with. I enjoyed a pint of Staropramen outside, it being a lovely day, before the movie began, inside the cinema screen the atmosphere was exciting, I could tell people were genuinely excited about watching the movie, and people seemed to have a great time, people laughed and were amazed throughout, even though many of them had probably seen it many times before. It felt like being back in the Eighties, it was such an amazing experience, THE happiest I have been this century, what more can anyone ask for?

If you live anywhere near Nottingham, are a fairly decent person, that appreciates a decent venue, for movies, food or a drink, and you haven’t discovered The Broadway yet, go seek it out, I can guarantee you shouldn’t be disappointed.

Rating of Raiders (and The Broadway) a MASSIVE 5 out of 5.

 

The Fisher King

What a great movie. I really enjoy a good movie, who doesn’t? I enjoy a good Terry Gilliam movie, are there any bad ones? If there is Fisher King isn’t. You haven’t seen it? Shame on you, go watch it, now.

What’s it about? Redemption, which is big thing, some people need redeeming, some seek it, some don’t, the main character, portrayed by Jeff Bridges needs redemption, he’s an awful person, the kind that should never have friends, people who care about him, but does and how does he treat such people? With utter contempt. Naturally.

It’s a story about those who have, everything, or so it seems, and those who have nothing, or have lost everything, through no fault of their own, it’s a reflection of the World, you know that big bad imperfect globe we all have to live upon.

It’s a harsh, despicable World, where societies exist in which we have homeless people,  in which there are folk that would burn to death homeless people, it’s not a World really worth caring about, I know I’m past caring, I used to care too much, but what the Hell’s the point, apathy rules the World, right?

The gist of the story, other than being about redemption, is also about a quest for The Holy Grail, which is not what most people believe it to be, right? It’s not the cup of Christ, nor is it the bloodline, in fact the cup, the grail, isn’t even a Christian relic, it’s something else, something specifically British, something ancient, and forgotten, but hey everyone knows that, don’t they?

Even though, Jack (the Jeff Bridges character) is an asshat, you just know he’s not all bad. Is he? In these stories the asshat never his, there’s a part of him, a small part of his soul that can be redeemed, you know that eventually he will do the right thing. That’s what all great stories are about, us, people, the terrible things that happen to us, and the amazing things we experience, you can’t have a good story without good characters, and good characters are those who we can relate to and care about.

The characters played by Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams are relatable, both are tragic, both are lost, both exist in what we can be considered the real World, but also one of fantasy. Some of the camera angles create a surreal World out of the mundane, as is of course norm for the course in a Gilliam movie. One of the things I enjoy about a Gilliam movie is that he captures the tragedy of humanity, the complete lack of humanity we humans show each other, especially in big cities, when people are so self obsessed, how people can turn a blind eye to every awful rotten thing, I do it myself, iPod on, head down, hurrying quickly to clear the dirty debris of broken lives.

The story moves along nicely, and though eccentric it has a sweet spine running through it, a love story between two quirky characters, two people who are shattered on the inside, who have personalities that fit together but are World’s apart, due to the nature of their imperfect awkward lives.

There are moments of epic failure as a life shattered by tragedy is relived moment by tragic moment in awful graphic detail, and joy, fleeting, momentarily fleeting, becomes gross misery, because Jack remains an asshat, and no matter what he does, it’s out of selfishness, to love life, to be happy, you need to be unselfish, and for Jack his journey needs more tragedy before he can find what he really needs. To find redemption Jack needs more, much more, he needs to be crazy, to do the right thing.

I guess we all, well at least some of us, regard our lives in terms of success, in how much money we earn, the size of our bank balance, the job we find ourselves in, but that’s not a life, and that’s the what the story is all about. Who are we? What are we? What make us happy?

It's an interesting movie, one worth having in a collection.

Once Upon A Time…

… at the dawn of a new reality, a star shaped battle damaged vehicle tumbles slowly through vast clouds of tumultuous particles, the tremendous gravitational forces should rend the vehicle, rip, tear, shred, decimate, but somehow they do not, the vehicle being constructed from matter which has yet, and perhaps never will, exist in this Universe, it’s highly probable that nothing within this Universe will ever be capable of damaging, of rupturing its strange shell. The strange vehicle that shouldn’t exist continues tumbling as the reality around it coalesces and expands.

Inside the vehicle the entity once known as Sammael reflects on the betrayal that cost him not only his World but all of his reality. The Great War had raged uncontrollably for untold millennia consuming Worlds, civilisations, sprawling galactic Empires and Republics, it was war without end, until Sammael betrayed all he loved to end it.

Injured beyond imagining Sammael spastically bares sole witness to the early life of a Universe that exists because he, Sammael, sacrificed his own to prevent the spread of an intelligent macro-cancer which had infected it. Sammael had previously counted his life in aeons, and had been the witness to many spectacular one of a kind events, but nothing he’d ever seen was as immense as being the sole witness to a new Universe, though his body lay shattered and torn his intense intellect remained unharmed, and via telepathic means he directs his war battered space vehicle to record every instant of this remarkable new Cosmos.

 

Once Upon A Time…

… there was a vast Cosmos, teeming with a multitude of lifeforms, some of these lifeforms created vast cosmic Empires, some were of intelligences so alien no human mind could ever hope to grasp, beings so ancient they existed when this Universe was in it’s infancy, some of these intelligences claimed existence before reality itself. 

Then one day, much like any other except for the deadly encroachment of entropy, this Universe, this complex and evolved reality ceased to be, the energy released during it’s death throes gave birth to another reality, another Cosmos, our own.

From an explosion of unknowable energies the reality we take for granted was born, existing in a state of heat no one could ever measure the Universe rapidly cooled and began it’s, so far, never ending expansion, the cooling Universe gave creation to a variety of subatomic particles, the building blocks of creation. The first elements, the lighter ones such as helium and hydrogen, these lighter elements coalesced into vast cosmic clouds forming galaxies and stars, within some of these stars the heavier elements came into being. All matter in known existence is the result of stars suddenly dying spectacularly, the explosions of mighty masses spilling out into creation. Even we, humble humans, are the stuff of stars, it courses throughout our very being, we are part of the Universe, and it is part of us.

I love the story of creation, it’s one of, if not THE, favourite of mine. Of course there are many stories about creation, spun from the powerful imaginations of men, and some women, but more men than women, for some unknowable reason, at least so I imagine. Many people have a hard time grasping the beginnings of the Universe, after all it is a hard concept to grasp, perhaps far too difficult for most human minds, one of the problems some people have with the birth of the Universe is how there was nothing and then BANG! something, however, those people have either never heard of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle or do not understand it, some, would of course refute it, I however I am a huge fan of Heisenberg and quite happily accept his principle, and everything such a principle portends, though I hate to accept a hypothesis that Albert Einstein was opposed to, but one most follow ones own path, sometimes.

The, almost, endless cycle of cosmic creation naturally led to the creation of this minor barred galaxy within which we exist and perhaps trillions upon trillions of other lifeforms on billions upon billions of other Worlds orbiting the many two to four hundred billion stars that make up this galaxy of which this star system is only a very small part.

The vastness of the Cosmos is staggering, I myself am incapable of grasping the conceptual nature of such a reality, one in which every possibility imagined, and unimagined, could be an actuality.

 

Despairs At The Lack Of Intelligence Humans Exhibit

We, Homo Sapiens, are supposed to be intelligent, it’s assumed by many people that they are in fact intelligent, and that as a species we are, I would like the time, now, to claim otherwise. Now this post isn’t going to be some sort of narcissistic claim that I myself am intelligent, I would quite happily argue with anyone all day, any day, that I am in fact the opposite. I find my lack of intelligence, and my poor education, a constant embarrassment, I admit to being ashamed of my own idiocy and lack of intellectual enlightenment, I wish I had a greater capacity for understanding, a larger palette of knowledge, but I haven’t, I must accept my failings, and my lack of brain power is one such failing, sigh.

However I do not seem to be alone when it comes to low levels of intelligence, it appears that I am constantly surrounded by people equally as lacking in intelligence as I, in fact it has come to my attention that out there in the big, crazy, old World are people even less intelligent than little old me. Which is something I always find distressing, I can accept my own lack of intelligence, but the discovery of people less intelligent really exasperates, and I feel the need to sigh many times a day on a daily basis.

There should be no one, anywhere, less intelligent than myself, it’s most shocking that the reality is otherwise. 

The arrogant, and perhaps ignorant, attitude about human intelligence is something that I think (yes, though lacking in intelligence I still manage thought, remarkable, I know) should be reconsidered, how many intelligent people are out there in the World, really? Just what is the percentage? How is that percentage distributed?

In governments Worldwide how many great intellects are there? At the weekend while exiting my nearest bookstore, a staggering fifteen to twenty miles away, I noticed a book, The Geek Manifesto, I think the book touches upon similar concepts as I’m attempting to present here, the fact that intelligence for most people is not something to aspire to be, to be proud of, to attempt to grasp, it seems these days, and at least to me, a self confessed idiot, indeed I once wrote a book about a year in my own idiot life, that intelligence is frowned upon, ignored, to be feared, condemned, ridiculed. Which seems rather odd, you’d think that intelligence, especially these days with all these technological marvels at our grasp, that people would be more readily accepting of, that folk would be reveling in intellectual endeavours and that everyone, everywhere, would be far more intelligent than myself. It’s a shame that is not the case, though perhaps better for me that it’s not, otherwise, and if the scenario was far different, I’d find myself naked in a cage as intelligent people prodded me with sticks and assaulted my primitive brain with higher falutin’ concepts like the origins of the Universe, evolution, the Earth not being flat and Einstein’s Relativity, fortunately I don’t have to suffer such humiliation, well not until the (other) apes takeover.

Today, like many other days, I felt frustrated at my own lack of intelligence, but more so at the lack of others, here in Great Britain, the use of the native tongue, English, is so badly used, both verbally and especially in it’s non verbal form, this lack of being able to grasp the language of one’s birth makes me despair, it seems, from my vantage point at least, that without intelligence, without well educated people, the future, near, is very bleak and this fills me with sadness, when I perceive the future I see a World drowning in idiocy and it’s not one I am looking forward to watching unfold.

The sooner the (other) apes takeover the better, or at least this unintelligent ape believes.
